What is Medicinal Aesthetics?
Breaking these two words down is the most simple way to understand these services. Medicinal means that the substance or the ingredients used have a healing property. Western medicine has done great things throughout the world. However, peppermint tea is great for sore throats, and yoga is great for stress relief. With this understanding, we have relied on skin care that has holistic and herbal remedies rather than the invasive techniques and products of western medicine. While we do not practice medicine, we focus on curative, healing, remedial, therapeutic, restorative, and corrective products made with natural plant enzymes. Aesthetics is defined as a set of principles that focus with the natural appreciation of beauty.
What is Diamond Dermabrasion?
Diamond dermabrasion is one of the most popular skin care treatments, because it is able to solve many different skin concerns. It is simple and very effective. A diamond tip is massaged over your skin while a suction lifts away dead skin cells. The suction boosts blood flow and collagen production, which encourages the regeneration of new, younger skin.
Does diamond dermabrasion hurt?
Diamond dermabrasion is not painful. The guest feels a slight bit of abrasiveness across the skin, along with a vacuum sensation being held up against your face.
What are the benefits of diamond dermabrasion?
Diamond dermabrasion can treat signs of aging, sun-damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, stretch marks, pigmentation spots, age spots, and scarring.
It is also very effective in treating under the eye and around the eye--the crow's feet. It removes dead surface skin cells and improves skin tone, diminishes the appearance of scars, shrinks pore size, renews elasticity, helps to reduce acne, and gives an all-over glow.
What is the difference between diamond dermabrasion and micro dermabrasion?
Micro dermabrasion refers to tiny crystals pushed onto the skin and then vacuumed up to achieve skin exfoliation. These crystals can be associated with negative side effects. They produce many dust particles that can get stuck inside your pores or get into your eyes and mouth. Because of this, it is not recommended to use around the eye and mouth areas. However, these areas are the first to be affected with fine lines, wrinkles, and thinning skin. Diamond dermabrasion treatments produce NO hazardous dust. This is great for you because they can be used in the 'under the eye' area and the mouth, where many signs of aging appear. The anti-aging benefits of the diamond dermabrasion far exceed the outdated crystal micro dermabrasion.
What products are used during the skin care treatments?
All of the products are the Alchimie Forever plant based, medical grade products. These products are free from all the bad stuff such as: parabens, animal byproducts, dyes, phthalates, sulfates, gluten, soy, mineral oil, polypropylene glycol, formaldehyde, and animal testing. They are VEGAN-friendly and work wonderfully for anyone with a gluten-free diet, which means anyone suffering from Celiac disease can use these great products!
What is a Brazilian wax?
Brazilian waxing is the term used for waxing the pubic bone to the tail bone.
Do I have to wax everything?
A traditional Brazilian is the removal of all hair. However, we have seen a growing trend in American Brazilians, which is leaving a 'landing strip'. Many women prefer to leave a little bit of hair so they don't feel as naked. We have several shapes to choose from, so your design is left to you! For men, most will choose to go completely bare.
What can I do before getting waxed to help alleviate pain?
You will experience discomfort. However, most of our clients comment that it isn't as bad as they thought it would be. We suggest apple juice the day before your appointment. Also, about two hours prior to your appointment, using an anti-inflammatory - such as ibuprofen - taken with one glass of apple juice will help. The apple juice will help eliminate those post waxing red bumps, and the ibuprofen will lessen the pain. You should also exfoliate the area with a gentle scub or glove. This reduces the chance of ingrown hairs. We offer PLUMB NUMB which is a great product that helps numb the area a bit. This product can be purchased in our spa and should be applied 20-30 minutes prior to your appointment.
How long does the hair need to be?
We tell all of our clients that we can generally get 3-4 day hair growth. Everyone's hair is different so that breaks down to about 1/8" - 1/4" in length. (about the length of a grain of rice) Anything longer than about 3/4" can take longer and can cause more discomfort than necessary. If it's the first time, we suggest you trim it down to a 1/2".
How long will the appointment take?
If you're new to this service, it can take up to 45 minutes. A lot of the appointment is getting you comfortable and kind of teaching you through the whole procedure, so we take our time. If you've had this service before, we can usually get our clients in and out in under 20 minutes.
How long can I expect to be hair-free?
After the first appointment, the hair may begin to grow back within about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. The reason this occurs is because any hairs that were just under the surface will show up. This new hair will be much softer, more thin, and can even grow lighter in color. Many of our clients are nearly hair-free for 5 weeks. Different areas may grow even slower. Most clients notice that after their third or fourth time, the hair is so thin, they don't even notice it!
Can I still get a Brazilian if I'm having my period?
While you may feel self-conscious about having a wax service while having your period, it is something that we do quite frequently. Many technicians may steer clear of this, but at Rejuvenations, we think it's fine. We suggest getting a Brazilian every 5 weeks so about every three months, you will be scheduled during this time of the month. One of the biggest benefits of this is that your skin is actually less sensitive. We recommend wearing a tampon and simply tucking the string. We are cautious of working around it.
What do I need to avoid after getting a Brazilian?
PLEASE: avoid direct sun exposure especially in a tanning bed; avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, hot tubs, and hot baths for at least 48 hours; do NOT use any exfoliates after for 24 hours; avoid heavy exercise for 24 hours; avoid tight clothing or silk or satin materials directly against the waxed area; avoid oral sex & intercourse for 24 hours due to bodily fluids working their way into freshly opened pores.
What kind of wax is used for a Brazilian?
We use a customized, strip-less wax, not a hard or honey wax. Our wax is a combination of waxes offered to other professionals. However, after years of offering this specific service, we have found that our combination is the absolute best for a faster dry time using less wax with a better result for the guest. Hard waxes dry to the firmness of peanut brittle and can be very difficult to get off, using a "flicking" motion that can give the client a great amount of discomfort. Honey wax can only be applied in the direction of hair growth, and because the hair grows in several different directions, this can also be very painful. The strip-less combination of waxes that we use does not use pelon or paper strips. It stays pliable and never becomes dry and hard. Therefore, our wax cannot stick to the skin and only connects itself to the hair. This is great because a lot of pain can be avoided if the wax is not adhering to the skin.
